Abstract

464,941. Carburetting ; auxiliary changes. PASSMORE, R. S. Dec. 30, 1935, No. 35988. Convention date, Jan. 16. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii)] In an auxiliary fuel-supply device for internal-combustion engines, of the type described in Specification 437,768 wherein vaporized fuel formed by causing air to bubble through fuel in a tank is led to a mixing- chamber into which a controllable supply of air is introduced, the mixing-chamber consists of a cylindrical casing 5 into which pipes 1, 8, 11, connected respectively to the fuel-tank, induction manifold, and air supply are introduced so as to communicate with ports 7, 14 and 15, a single rotor 16 mounted within the casing being provided with a recess 28 which (1) for starting, uncovers the ports 7, 14 and covers the port 15 so that vaporized fuel alone is supplied to the engine ; (2) for cold idling, uncovers the ports 7 and 14 and the port 15 to a variable extent to supply a strong mixture ; (3) for supplying a weak mixture, uncovers all three ports ; and (4) for supplying air alone, uncovers the ports 14, 15 and covers 7. The casing 5 is screwed to the dashboard of a motor vehicle by means of a plate 22 graduated to indicate the position of the rotor, a knob 23 fixed to a pin 17 integral with the rotor having a pointer moving over a dial. The pin 17 passes through a spring plate 18 and a retaining-plate 19 held in position by a split ring 20. A ball catch 29a retains the rotor in the position of adjustment, and a recess 34 cut in its face reduces the friction against the inner surface of the casing 5. The cavity 28 moves across the port 15 at an angle, thus providing a gradual opening of the port.
