464,874. Elastic - fluid turbines. RAINIER, J. W. Dec. 18, 1935, No. 35088. [Class 110 (iii)] A turbine rotor 24 on a shaft 6 has helical blades 25, of constant, or varying pitch contained within a shrouding 26. Gas from two or more carburetters is admitted to compression cylinders 1a through inlets 1e, compressed in each by a piston 2, fired by a plug 7. and admitted to an inlet chamber 12 to the turbine by way of a passage 11 in a cam-operated valve 10. A cam 5 controls the movement of piston rods 3. In a modified arrangement the ignited gases are led to a piston extension of each valve 10 to force the valve upwards until the passage 11 opens to connect the compression cylinder and the chamber 12. Packing rings 27, 37, are provided upon the rotor. Cooling water from a pump enters the hollow shaft at 40 and passes to a collector 41. Further cooling spaces 9b and 43 are provided.
