[Class 35] [Also in Group XXXVI] The laminae of a composite brush are insulated by heatresisting material containing a layer of paper, fabric, oxide or oxidized metal foil and have electrically separate conductors secured to them by rivets or pins. In addition to the insulating material insulated rivets may be used to hold the laminae together. A layer of insulation on the brush or holder separates the brush and holder and the outer laminae may be of material of greater mechanical strength. A separate current lead is used for each lamina and where rivetted connections are employed, the rivets are insulated from all the laminae except one, when they pass through all the laminae. In the form shown in Fig. 9, braid 26 is used for the connections and this is secured by pins 27. In the form shown in Fig. 11, the conductor 29, which may be of braid, is secured to one lamina 32 by two rivets 30 and is supported on the head of the brush by an insulating member 41, 38 indicating a plate on which the pressure finger 40 bears, and 42, 43 inserts of elastic damping material. A fixed or adjustable resistance or choke may be connected in series with each brush lamina. In the form shown in Fig. 7, hollow rivets clamp connectors 10, 11, 12 against laminae 13, 14, 15 respectively, the rivets being separated from the other laminae by insulation 19. Known arrangements of similarly insulated conductors which have connections common to several laminae are also described.
