[Class 36] [Also in Group XXXV] A high-frequency conductor or coil comprises a core of insulating material, or poorly-conducting material, provided with a highly conductive coating, the thickness of which is such that at the operating frequency of the conductor or coil the losses therein are a minimum. To determine the thickness of the coating, curves are drawn showing the relationship between thickness of coating and both the ordinary ohmic resistance of the conductor and the additional resistance due to the conductor carrying high-frequency current. The thickness corresponding to the intersection point of the two curves is the thickness required for minimum losses. The core may be shaped before the conducting coating is applied. When a flexible conductor is required, the core may consist of resistance wire or other flexible material and several such conductors may be separately insulated and spun or plaited together.
