Abstract

140,134. British Thomson - Houston Co., and Whitaker, F. P. Nov. 15, 1918. Auxiliary protective or safety devices; brush - holders. - A brush-holder or bracket for dynamo-electric machines consists of a circular hollow protecting-shell 9 within which the brushes 7, adjusting-gear 19, and one or more blow-out coils 10 are totally enclosed. The shell 9 is provided with a hinged cover 16, the central portion of which is made of insulating - material. The central portion 18 of the opposite side of the shell is also made of insulating-material. The shell may be in electrical contact with the brushes, or insulated therefrom. The blow-out coil is connected between the bus-ring and the brushes or protecting-shell; or it may be divided into two parts, one connected between the brushes and protecting-shell, and the other between the busring and the brushes.
