Abstract
463,094. Gravity-separation apparatus. SCHNEIBLE, C. B. Jan. 23, 1936, No. 2221. [Class 46] After sufficient solid material has collected in a settling tank A the supply of material thereto is stopped and the liquid in the tank is drained away through a tower B, formed of tapering sleeves attached to a central plate 29 so as to leave an upwardly directed passage between each pair of adjacent sleeves. The tower is supported at the bottom on a conduit 14 which extends across the base of the tank, has openings within the tower and is connected to a valve-controlled discharge pipe. Material supplied to the tank through a pipe 23 is directed across the tank by baffles 22, 22<a>. Clear liquid flows away over a weir 24 to a box 25 and tank D. A baffle shield B<1> is arranged on the inlet side of the tower. When the liquid has drained away through the tower B, the solid matter is discharged into a truck below by opening counterweighted gates c<1> which normally close the bottom of the tank. Shafts 44 on which the gates c<1> are mounted can be turned simultaneously by manuallyoperated gearing. Two tanks A are provided so that a continuous supply of material can be treated.
