[Class 13] [Also in Group XXXIX] A directional sound-projecting device comprises one or more sound-emitting horns with a projection aperture or apertures forming an elongated orifice arranged confocally with a cylindrical or cylindroidal reflector of parabolic or like cross-section. As shown in Fig. 1, the elongated mouthpiece H1 of a horn H, associated with a sound reproducing unit S, is arranged at approximately the focal line R1 of the reflector R. In modifications, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), a number of mouthpieces, associated with one or more reproducing units, are arranged along the focal line of the reflector. Fig. 5 shows a reflector shaped to confine the reflected sound in two directions at right angles, the main cylindrical surface R being flanked by reflecting surfaces R2, R3. In a further form, Fig. 4 (not shown), similar to Fig. 5, the principal axis of symmetry of the reflector is curved, and the mouthpieces of the horns are shaped to correspond to the curved focal line of the reflector. In order to facilitate the projection of the sound in a desired direction, the reflector and reproducing unit are mounted on a shaft A, rotatable in a footstep bearing B2 and carrying a pointer P moving over a scale P1 and a sighting telescope T carried on trunnions T1, T2. The reflector may be arranged so that the sound is projected in a substantially horizontal beam.
