Abstract

691,610. Optical objectives. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 15, 1951 [July 19, 1950], No. 18056/50. Class 97 (i). The reflecting surfaces of a reflecting optical objective are formed on opposite faces of a transparent block so that one surface is concave with respect to the object and has a central transparent portion whilst the other surface is convex with respect to the image, the block being split at right-angles to the optical axis into two portions each including one of said surfaces whereby each surface may be formed separately and subsequently assembled in correct position by uniting the two portions of the block. In the form shown, the transparent block is split along a plane or curved surface P into portions A, B which are formed with the concave and convex reflecting surfaces M<SP>1</SP>, M<SP>2</SP> respectively. An axial tunnel H is formed in portion B, this tunnel terminating at a refracting portion S of surface P which portion is concave towards the image 1<SP>1</SP> and corrects for coma. A lens N is mounted in the tunnel H, preferably in a step, to correct for chromatic aberrations. The portions A, B of the block may be united by cementing or optical contacting. Data for one example are given.
