690,403. Optical objectives. COOK, G. H., and TAYLOR, TAYLOR, & HOBSON, Ltd. Jan. 30, 1952 [Feb. 15, 1951], No. 3657/51. Class 97 (i). In an objective corrected to cover a semiangular field not greater than 30 degrees and comprising two simple divergent components located between two simple convergent outer components and embracing between them two simple convergent inner components of meniscus form with their surfaces concave towards a diaphragm between them, the outer surfaces of the convergent outer components and the inner surfaces of the divergent components also being concave towards the diaphragm, the sum of the equivalent focal lengths of the two convergent inner components lies between 1.8 F and 2.6 F, where F is the equivalent focal length of the whole objective, the arithmetic mean between the positive values of the radii of curvature of the outer surfaces of such inner components lies between 0.22 F and 0.44 F, and the Petzval curvature of the objective lies between 0.08 and 0.16 times the equivalent power of the objective.
