Abstract

408,406. Optical-projection apparatus. MATTHEWS, H. G., and LUMINASTRA, Ltd., Midland Bank Chambers, Bromley, Kent. Dec. 28, 1932, No. 36660. [Class 97 (i).] In apparatus for projecting on to clouds &c., and by means of a lens e of long focal length an image of a stencil or transparency illuminated by a searchlight, the diameter of the searchlight mirror a is larger than that of the stencil &c. d, the searchlight produces a convergent beam, and the angle of the beam is reduced by a lens c in proximity to the stencil. The lens c may be a divergent lens, as shown, or a convergent lens beyond the apex of the beam. The curvature of the mirror a is preferably elliptical and not parabolic, and the projecting lens e is preferably concavo-convex and has non-spherical curvature so as to secure good definition over the whole of the field.
