Abstract

543,802. Light valves. SCOPHONY, Ltd., and OKOLICSANYI, F. July 8, 1941, No. 131/42. Divided out of 543,185. [Class 40 (iii)] A light-beam obturating device for producing sinusoidal fluctuations of the beam intended to act on a photo-electric cell, especially for use in television apparatus as claimed in Specification 543,185, comprises a right circular cylinder 27, Fig. 1, rotatably mounted about an axis of rotation 28 which is parallel to and offset from the axis of the cylinder, said cylinder forming one bounding edge of the light beam passing through an aperture 29 between blocks 25, 26. The block 25 is hollow to permit the rotation of the cylinder 27 ; and the other block 26 is flat and bounds the other edge of the light beam. The block 26 may be adjustable laterally to allow a certain amount of light to pass in the zero position 27<SP>1</SP> of the cylinder indicated by dotted lines. The cylinder 27 is attached to collars 30, Fig. 2, on end spindles 28 ; and lead plugs 31 are inserted in these collars to balance the rotational system about its axis.
