Abstract

496,257. Educational appliances. BLACK, R. K. July 3, 1937, No. 18522. [Class 146 (ii)] [Also in Group XX] Apparatus for demonstrating the properties of optical systems comprises a pair of pivotally mounted mirrors 13, 14 so arranged in front of an opaque baffle 9 with slits 10, 11, 11a, 12, 12a, through which parallel light passes from a suitable source that certain of the rays are deflected to intersect the undeflected rays and so define the position of an imaginary object at PQ. The system of rays thus produced is passed through the desired lens or other optical system and the formation of the image P<1>Q<1> may be observed. In an alternative arrangement each pair of slits 11, 11a, 12, 12a is replaced by a wide slit and the mirrors are arranged to deflect only part of the light issuing therefrom.
