Abstract

459,191. Shaft-couplings. ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT CO., Ltd., Windmill Lane, Southall, and REEVE, C. W., The Park, Feltham Hill, both in Middlesex. July 9, 1935, No. 19585. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXVII] The shaft of an auxiliary unit 10 is driven from the crank-shaft of an internal-combustion engine through an auxiliary drive shaft 16 which is supported at one end by a self - aligning anti - friction bearing 18 and at the other end by a centring device carried by the shaft 40 of the unit. The centring device is formed by a conical or cylindrical extension 51 on the shaft 40 which enters a conical or cylindrical recess 50 in the shaft 16. To enable the phase relationship between the shafts 16, 40 to be adjusted, the end members 37, 39 of the coupling are provided with dogs which enter slots in a disc 38 and the member 37 is secured to the shaft 16 by bolts 44 passing through slots 45. The bearing 18 and a gear-wheel 22 driving the shaft 16 are housed in a casing 19 secured to the crank-case.
