458,727. Pipe couplings. LINKE, P., 53, Ringbahnstrasse, Tempelhof, Berlin. April 22, 1936, No. 11489. Convention date, April 30, 1935. [Class 99 (i)] A pipe or hose connection, particularly for connecting a hose pipe 1 to a vacuum cleaner 15, comprises a detachable coupling of the type wherein a rubber ring 13 fitting around the connecting branch, such as a tube 3, is expanded radially by axial compression and bears against the inner wall of a corresponding bore 14 in the casing of the cleaner and against the outer periphery of the branch, in combination with a rotatable coupling, formed for instance, by means of a pipe 2 connected to the hose 1 and rotatable within the tube 3. The ring 13 is compressed axially by turning a nut 10 screw-threaded on to the tube 3, the other end of the ring abutting against a shoulder 8 on the end of the tube ; a ring 11 and a washer 12 are interposed between the nut and the ring. The pipe 2 has a shoulder 4 pressed against the tube 3 by a spring 7 arranged between the shoulder 8 and a shoulder 6 on the pipe.
