Abstract
457,305. Cylinders. AUTO UNION AKT.-GES., 110, Scheffelstrasse, Chemnitz, Germany. April 9, 1936, No. 10608. Convention date, April 9, 1935. [Class 7 (ii)] In a two - stroke engine cylinder piston - controlled admission ports S1, S2 are arranged on each side of exhaust ports A1, A2 and an inclined baffle c, bell-shaped in plan, causes the scavenging current to be diverted in succession as shown by arrows 1a, 1b, 1c as the piston passes the ports to open them their fullest extent. The height of the baffle c is substantially the same as that of the admission ports, the upper edges of which may be inclined to agree with the slope of the baffle. The baffle may have a rounded nose or extend to the opposite cylinder wall where one or more further admission ports S3 may be provided. These should be either directed towards one another or along the edges of the baffle, which is further so constructed that its centre of gravity is coaxial with the cylinder ; it may comprise a curved wall rising from a flat cylinder face.
