Abstract

455,959. Saddles. RAFFERTY, P., Church Street, Killaloe, Co. Clare, Irish Free State. May 9, 1936, No. 13193. [Class 136 (iii)] A cycle saddle comprises a pneumatic top resting on a sponge rubber pad supported on a rigid steel &c. base-plate, which is resiliently mounted by means of springs on the saddle pillar. The pneumatic saddle top 1 is mounted on a base consisting of a rigid metal plate 2 surmounted by a sponge rubber pad 3, the plate 2 being supported on inclined leaf springs 4, (preferably two at the rear and one at the front), which are pivoted at 5 to the base plate 2 and at 6 to a horizontal support 7 clamped to the saddle pin 10. The pivots 5, 6 are fitted with torsion springs resisting the pivotal movements. The base plate 2 is also supported by coil springs 11 mounted within an inverted U-shaped guide member 13 slidably engaging the support 7, the member 13 being screwed to a wooden block 14 secured to the base plate 2. The lower peripheral part of the top 1 is held in position by a rubber member 16, which is secured at the rear by a flange 21 on the plate 2 and at the peak by a spring strip 17 secured to the plate 2. A leather saddle cover 19 is attached to buttons 18 on the plate 2.
