Class 52(1) An upholstered vehicle seat with rigid frame 12, seat surface 14 and back support 11 has the latter secured to frame 12 by self-clamped rubber and metallic members 13 so as to be movable in a vertical direction to maintain the relative positions of back and seat supports constant and independent of the loading on the seating surface. In a modification, Fig. 6, an arm rest 16 is mounted on the vehicle door 15 by elastic supports 17 to yield with the movement of the seat back 11<SP>11</SP> or as in Fig. 7 it may be a structural part of the back 11<SP>111</SP>. An unoccupied seat may be prevented from oscillating by engaging a catch spring 18 with a cross piece 19 of the back as in Fig. 4.
