A vehicle seat comprises a seat part 10 mounted above a base part 11 and connected thereto by a linkage 12, 13 which supports the seat part 10 for upward and downward movement relative to the base part 11, spring-biasing means for opposing the downward movement of the seat part 10, and locking means for locking the seat part to the back part to prevent said relative movement. The spring-biasing means comprises a torsion bar 14 which can be adjusted by a handle 15. The locking means comprises a pair of hooks 17 interconnected by a bar 18, which latch over the ends of a bar 16 secured to the seat part, when the seat part 10 is in a depressed position. The hooks 17 are rotated by a handle 19 and there is a spring 20 so positioned that the hooks remain either latched around the bar 16 or in the unused position shown in Fig. 1.
