485,748. Heel-rests for cycle pedals. DUGDALE, J. S. Feb. 8, 1938, No. 3902. [Class 136 (ii)] A heel-rest for cycle pedals comprises a base member adapted at its front end to be secured beneath the pedal and formed at its rear end with an upstanding abutment for the back of the heel, whereby the foot is firmly supported and may be used to assist the propelling action during its upward movement. The base member consists of a longitudinal narrow metal bar 10, which is fixed to, or formed integral with, a base-plate 8 adapted to be secured beneath the pedal either by two pairs of bolts 6 and an upper clamping-plate 7, or by bolts and a pair of U-shaped clamps embracing the sleeve which surrounds the pedal spindle. The rear end of the bar 10 is bent upwards to form a limb 11, which may have an adjustable extension 11a and bears against the back of the rider's heel. The limb 11 is stayed by a strip-metal bar 13 of U-outline having the centre of its bend secured at 14 to the limb, its inner or longer arm being attached by a bolt 15a to a lug 15 bent up from the baseplate 8, while the outer or shorter arm is attached by a bolt 16a to a lug on the roar corner of the base-plate 8. The longer arm of the stay 13 may be strengthened by a short vertical stay 17. The longitudinal bar 10 and the stays may be provided with a number of spaced bolt holes for adjustment according to the size of the foot. The heel rest may be counterbalanced by a weight 21 on the plate 8.
