Abstract
536,855. Flat-irons. DAVIS, H. C. March 15, 1940, No. 4853. Addition to 506,456. [Class 138 (ii)] In a modification of the flat-iron as disclosed in the parent Specification the pivoted legs 11 for supporting the iron when not in use are raised to inoperative position by a button 19 mounted in or adjacent to the handle 8. Depression of the button acts through a sliding member 14, or a rock lever, on a cranked part 10 of the legs to swing the legs to inoperative position. The legs may be mounted by parts 9 engaging grooved lugs 12 on the pressure plate 2 which may also be provided with grooves or guides for the part 14. Alternatively the cranked part 9, 10 and the lower part of the member 14 may be arranged on top of the body 6 of the iron. A plate provided with spring fingers and guide apertures may be provided for mounting the parts 9, 10 and the lower part of the connection 14 on the iron. A spring may be arranged below the button and detents provided for holding the legs projected.
