[Class 34 (i)] [See also Groups VIII and XXIX] The moisture-content of paper is measured continuously during manufacture by subjecting it to heat and measuring the rate at which heat is lost from the heating medium. Steam for three drying cylinders 1<1> is supplied at constant pressure through a reducing valve 4, condensate being drawn off through pipes 5, 6 and measured, e.g. with a meter 7 A valve 8 controlling the steam supply to the remainder of the dryer may be actuated manually or from the meter 7. Alternatively the flow of steam at constant pressure or the difference in heat supplied and withdrawn may be measured.
