921,887. Determining the moisture content of steam. VYZKUMNY USTAV ENERGETICKY PRAHA. July 30, 1960, No. 26621/60. Class 97 (3). Steam passing through a conduit is induced by means of an injector to enter a detector 1, or controlled in its entry by means of a valve, not shown, at the exit 11 of the detector 1, according as the pressure of the steam is less than or greater than atmospheric, the detector having a heated surface 8 which is maintained at a constant temperature difference above that of the moist steam so that the heat input to the heated surface, in excess of that which would be necessary if dry steam entered the detector 1, is a measure of the heat utilized in evaporating the moist steam and is thus a measure of the moisture content thereof. The detector 1, which is in the form of a cylindrical tube, is provided with means 2, 4 to measure the pressure inside and outside the tube 1 respectively and thermocouples 6, 9, for measuring the temperatures of the moist steam and the heated surface 8 respectively. The heat supplied to surface 8 is controlled by potentiometer 15 and measured by a wattmeter 14. The surface 8 may be a directly heated grid, as shown, through which the steam passes or a surface, around which the steam flows, heated by a spiral exposed on its front surface or embedded therein. An auxiliary coil may be provided on the sides of the heated surface to prevent loss of heat by conduction from the front surface.
