Abstract
235,607. Donald, W. July 9, 1924. Small chambers; special pressures , drying at. - Air-dried peat &c. is further dried in a dehydrating-chamber in an atmosphere of evolved vapour at a pressure above atmospheric. The dehydrating - chamber is provided' with steampipes C which communicate with steam chambers C<1> at the ends of the dehydrating-chamber; steam-tight doors B, a pressure gauge S, and an outlet D having a valve E and stopcocks F for controlling the pressure within the dehydrating- chamber. The materials to be dried are run into the chamber on bogies and heat is applied until the gauge registers a pressure of about 2“ atm. whereupon the outlet is regulated so as to allow the pressure to fall to 1¥ atm. which latter pressure is maintained until the drying is practically complete. The steam-chambers are preferably supplied with steam at a pressure of from 65 to 85 pounds per square inch. At the commencement of the drying, steam from a boiler H may be admitted into the dehydrating chamber. The dehydrating-chamber is enclosed within brickwork which is heated by the exhaust steam.
