Abstract

237,008. Donald, W. April 16, 1924. Drying ovens; special temperatures, drying at; heating-fittings.-Apparatus for drying peat &c. under pressure in an atmosphere of evolved vapour comprises a dehydrating boiler A having waste gas chambers C at its ends from which the gas is withdrawn by a fan Q communicating with an exhaust stack, open-ended fire-tubes F extending longitudinally through the boiler, and gas burners, or furnaces, &c. located outside the ends of the boiler, the products of combustion from the burners passing through the fire-tubes into the gas chambers. Substantially half of the tubes terminate in each gas chamber their opposite ends, or extensions thereof, passing through the gas chambers. Each burner comprises a tube J having perforations in alignment with certain of the fire-tubes and connected by a screwed collar L to a cock secured to a gas main G<1>. Each burner tube is hinged to a bracket secured to the gas main so that the tube may be moved out of alignment with the fire-tubes to facilitate the cleaning of the latter. Oil burners may be substituted for the gas burners. The peat is supported upon bogies or trays mounted on rails running through the boiler, which is provided with a valve for regulating the vapour pressure.
