[Also in Group XIII] In a means for controlling the temperature of intermediate superheated steam in a large boiler plant, a mixture of hot and cold combustion gases 1, 2 is first used to dry coal for -fuel in a drying chamber 4 prior to entry into a mill 5 and then to carry dried coal dust from a classifier 6 into a separator 7 where the entrained coal dust is removed, the cleaned combustion gases then being forced by a fan 8 to one of two lines 9, 10 to be exhausted to atmosphere and passed to the boiler according respectively as to whether the output of the boiler is at its nominal or minimum value. For intermediate values of boiler output the combustion gases are correspondingly apportioned between the lines 9, 10 by regulation of valves 13, 12. The coal dust from the separator 7 is mixed with primary air and passed to the boiler burners.
