[Class 39 (iii)] A heater comprises a resistance C wound on an insulating tube D, a second insulating tube B surrounding and spaced from the first tube, a metal tube A surrounding and spaced from the second tube, end caps F, G abutting the ends of the outer tube and connected by a central rod E, and resilient means S incorporated in this connection to permit differential expansion of the outer tube and the parts enclosed thereby. The tube D has a helical groove for containing the resistance. The tube A may be provided with gills. The end caps are freely supported on bearer plates R.
