Abstract

451,207. Valve amplifying circuits. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Feb. 13, 1936, No. 4434. Convention date, April 15, 1935. [Class 40 (v)] Volume expansion is effected in a low frequency amplifier 1, 3 by rectifying a portion of the output, derived from a potential divider 11, by a diode 8 and using the rectified voltage produced in resistance 9 to control the anode current of an auxiliary valve 2. This variable anode current passes through the anode resistance 4 of the amplifier 1 and operates to increase the anode voltage thereof when the signal amplitude increases. The anode current of valve 2 also passes through a pre-set portion of the cathode resistance 5 of valve 1 so that when the anode voltage of the latter rises its grid bias also becomes less negative. The cathode of valve 1 is connected to a tapping 18 on the resistance 5 so that the intensity of the contrast may be adjusted. A filter 17 may be provided to remove from the control energy high frequencies and in some cases high and low frequencies. In amplifiers having separate channels for different frequency bands, the control energy may be derived from one or more of said channels and applied to a plurality of rectifiers whose outputs are combined.
