Abstract

Plastic material consisting of finely divided animal tissue with which may be mixed vegetable, mineral or metallic material, for the manufacture of sheets from which sealing discs for closing bottles are cut out, is prepared as follows. Meat is finely ground and is then washed; the washed material, if necessary after further grinding or chopping, is stirred with caustic soda solution to form a paste, which is subsequently neutralized; p formaldehyde for sterilization and glycerine are then added. Suitable additions to the paste are wood pulp, cotton, asbestos, glass wool or threads, and metal filaments or wool.
