Abstract

A process for cleaning tin or articles formed of or coated with tin, or tin alloy, consists in washing the articles with a solution containing an alkaline detergent and an alkali sulphite. Alkaline detergents specified are sodium hydroxide, carbonate, phosphate or silicate. Organic compounds are excluded. Example: To a solution of sodium silicate crystalline sodium carbonate or soda ash, \ba1/10\be by weight of sodium sulphite, bisulphite or potassium meta bisulphite is added and used for cleansing milk churns, heaters or tanks. A solution of sodium hydroxide containing \ba1/3\be by weight of sodium sulphite may also be used.
