Abstract

In a laundry process, especially for cotton goods, in which treatment of the goods with an aqueous soap solution is followed by a plurality of rinsing steps, calcium hypochlorite is added in one of the rinsing steps, which is neither the first nor the last and in which the soap concentration does not exceed 200 p.p.m. The temperature of the rinse to which the calcium hypochlorite is added may be between 140 DEG . and 160 DEG F. The calcium hypochlorate may be added as a dry composition which may also contain calcium oxide or other desiccant, flake salt, sodium silicate, sodium bicarbonate, soda ash and a synthetic organic detergent or carboxy methyl cellulose. The calcium hypochlorite is one which contains 65 to 75 per cent available chlorine and which is low in lime and calcium chloride.ALSO:A calcium hypochlorite composition for use in a process of laundering cotton goods (see Group IV(c)) contains also calcium oxide or other dessicant, flake salt, sodium silicate, sodium bicarbonate, soda ash and a synthetic organic detergent or carboxy methyl cellulose. The calcium hypochlorite is one which contains 65 to 75 per cent available chlorine and which is low in lime and calcium chloride.
