Abstract

449,965. Securing metal caps to jars. WHITE, W. P., 211, Park Avenue, Glencoe, Illinois, U.S.A. Feb. 4, 1935, No. 3647. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [See also Group XVII] A metal cap 10 for a jar &c. has an inwardly deflected skirt 11 and a plastic gasket 12. The gasket is inserted into the shell 10, Fig. 7, and compressed against the top of the shell by a heated presser-head 16 having an electrical resistance element 17. The skirt is then deflected between a piston-like mandrel 21 and a rigid ring 20. The mandrel is returned by a spring 22 when the pressure is removed.
