[Class 79 (v)] [See also Group XXXIV] A single pedal 1 controls the throttle and brakes of a motor vehicle and is drawn into a position to apply the brakes by a spring 4 and is adapted to be depressed to an intermediate position to release the brakes and is further depressed to open the throttle of the vehicle engine. The brakes are controlled by a valve 2 controlled by a shaft 5 on which is mounted a lever 3 carrying the pedal 1. The throttle is operated by a lever 7 engaged by the lever 3. The connection between the lever 3 and the throttle may comprise a cam giving a larger movement to the throttle at the end of the range of movement of the pedal. The lever 3 may be pivoted on a lever 14 fixed to the shaft 5 which engages a slot in the lever 3, this allows the shaft 5 to remain stationary while the throttle is moved. A manually adjustable stop may control the maximum brake power from the vehicle dashboard. Specification 448,617, [Group XXXIV], is referred to.
