Abstract

313,452. Erdelen, O. June 11, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Controlling different functions by same lever; pneumatic controlling-apparatus.-The clutch is automatically disengaged when the accelerator is released by means of a piston and cylinder adapted to be connected, through a rotary valve operated by the accelerator, either with the atmosphere or with the engine induction pipe. The usual clutch pedal k controls the clutch through a rod c<1> which is also connected, through a pin-andslot d, to a piston a working in a cylinder b. A valve h, rotated by the accelerator pedal (not shown), puts the cylinder into communication either with the atmosphere through an adjustable passage ! l or with the engine induction pipe through a check valve s. The normal running position when the accelerator is depressed is with the cylinder connected to the atmosphere (as shown) so that the clutch is engaged by its spring. When the accelerator is released the valve is turned to its other position, a vacuum is formed in the cylinder b, and the clutch is disengaged. In order to allow the engine to be used as a brake the accelerator is arranged to rotate the valve h to release the clutch before it is moved far enough to open the throttle.
