Abstract

267,890. Renault, L. March 22, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Controlling different functions by same lever; pneumatic transmission ; setting devices for controlling-apparatus.-The clutch is operated by the accelerator pedal acting through a servo-motor. In the construction shown, the accelerator pedal 13 acts on the throttle 16 through a lost-motion connection 17, 18 and also operates a valve 4 controlling a vacuum cylinder 1 which effects the engagement of the clutch. When the pedal is depressed from the position shown, in which a port 4' of the valve puts the cylinder in communication with the atmosphere, the valve is moved until this port is closed to the atmosphere and open to an enginesuction pipe 8, the piston 2 being thus operated to cause the clutch to be engaged. Further movement of the pedal 13 then opens the throttle to any desired extent. In case the driver wishes to close the throttle without de-clutching a mechanical resistance is provided to let him know when the pedal is in the desired position. This resistance comprises a spring-pressed member 20 adapted to engage in a certain pedal position with a notch in the pedal shaft.
