Abstract

449,732. Winding yarns &c. REINERS, W., 214, Bahnstrasse, GIadbach, Munich, Germany. Oct. 4, 1935, No. 27483. Convention date, Nov. 28, 1934. [Class 120 (ii)] In a cop or like winding machine in which the cops 10 are supported between stub spindles 2 and counter-heads 9, the threads or varns are ruptured between the cops and the spindles on the completion of a set, by engaging the supply thread with the spindles and imparting relative rotation to the cops and spindles. As shown in Fig. 1, a length of thread 7 is wound on the neck 6 of each stub spindle 2 at the completion of the winding, the thread of each cop passing therefrom through one of a series of notches in a collar 8 adjacent the neck. When the cops are doffed by the retraction of the heads 9 and engagement of the cops by spring jaws 14, the threads are broken between the cops and the necks of the spindles by giving a small rotation to' the spindles; the jaws 14 are then opened to release the cops which fall into a container. In another arrangement, each spindle has a notched ring rotatably mounted thereon adjacent the collar 8 so that, when the few turns of threads have been wound upon the neck 6, the threads from the completed cops pass across notches in the collars 8 and in the rings which are then engaged by rockable levers to prevent them rotating while the stub spindles are rotated to rupture the threads.
