459,429. Winding yarns &c. ABBOTT MACHINE CO., Wilton, New Hampshire, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Abbott, E. J., and Ring, J. E.) May 3, 1935, No. 32923/36. Convention date, May 19, 1934. Divided out of 459,357. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] The invention is described with reference to the machine shown in Specification 459,357, but the claims are directed to a yarn or thread winding machine having a mechanism for uniting broken strands and a number of winding units which travel past said mechanism so that the latter is associated successively with the plurality of winding units, each unit comprising means for lowering and lifting the package into and out of contact with the winding roll to begin and stop winding during travel of the unit, an unwinding roll arranged in the path of travel of the units and means for causing the lifting and lowering means on the several units to associate the package therein with the unwinding roll. The machine may have the travelling and winding mechanism described in British Specification 268,161, [Class 120 (ii)], or that described in U.S.A. Reissue Specification 18,310 ; the yarn tensioner may be that described in U.S.A. Specification 1,965,363 and the slub catcher that described in U.S.A. Specification 1,905,259. British Specifications 459,413 and 459,414 also are referred to.
