Filed Oct. 15, 1935 I Patented Oct. 12, 1937 2,095,644 DOUBLE TWIST TWISTING SPINDLE PATENT OFFICE Wilhelm Lenk, Remscheid-Lennep, Germany, assignor to Barmer Maschinenfabrik, Aktiengesellscliaft, Wuppertal-Oberbarmen, Germany Application October 15, 1935, Serial No. 45,104 In Germany November 8, 1934 claims. (01. 242-430) This invention relates to a double twist twisting spindle with a thread guiding body arranged on the spool holder above the groupsof delivery spools. In twisting spindles of this type it has already been proposed to lead the threads running off the delivery spools' over a thread guiding disc to thehollo'w spindle and to separate them from the thread balloon by a balloon restricting ring.
This construction is, however, open to the objection that the running off threads travel to and fro on the guiding disc so that an irregular winding off of the thread occurs and that, in the case of checkings which occur on the winding off spool, the thread balloon is drawn inwards and becomes entangled with the running off threads.
. This results in frequent thread breakages which endanger the remunerative operation of the machine. Furthermore, dust and fly collect in the course of time at the point where the threads run over and are occasionally carried along by the threads and twisted in, so that a defective and useless twisted thread is produced. Moreover, the attendance of such spindles is inconvenient and wastes time because the threads coming from the delivery spools must be conducted through between the guiding disc and balloon restricting ring. The object of the invention is to overcome these objections.
The invention consists in that the thread guiding body has the shape of a spherical segment with radial guide. grooves for every individual delivery spool and having a central passage and being covered by a removable bell projecting from the spherical surface of the guiding body.
The invention offers the advantage that the unwinding threads run quietly and uniformly to the hollow spindle and remain absolutely separated from the thread balloon, so that the striking together of the threads and thethread breakages resulting therefrom are reliably avoided. Furthermore, no dust or fiy canlcollect on the thread guiding body and consequently a clean,
useful twisted thread is always produced. Moreover, the attendance of the spindle is extremely easy and quick as the thread guidingbody remains on the spool holder, whereas the bell is removed and left near the spindle. The spool holder can be filled without hindrance, and the thread ends can be fixed on the upper noses order, after placing the spool' holder on the spindie and replacing the bell, to be removed-and drawn through the twisting spindle. The invention, briefly stated, results in a considerable inprovided with a central crease in efilciency of the double twist twisting spindles, so that the rentability of the whole machine is considerably increased. Moreover, this construction enables any kind of yarns, even defective and irregular material to be economically 5 worked.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which:-

The spool holder I is provided with a plate 3 for accommodating the cops 2, every three of 15 which are, in the example illustrated, interconnected to form a spool group. For the running off of the threads or for conducting them into the twisting spindle, a thread guiding body 4 of mushroom shape or constructed in the shape of 20 a spherical segment is provided, which has radial thread guiding grooves 5 extending over its upper surface, whereas its lower edge 6 is smooth. Noses -I are provided on the top of the thread guiding body near the thread inlet aperture, these noses 25 after the fitting of the cap or bell .8 projecting upwards through an aperture therein and thus enable the threads held thereby to be threaded through the twisting spindle. A-double twist twisting spindle, comprising in combination a spool holder carrying groups 'of delivery spools, a thread guiding body mounted on the upper end of said spindle and in the shape of a spherical segment with radial thread grooves one for each of the mdivi ual delivery spools and assage, and a removable bell on said spool holder at a distance from. 50 said guiding body to allow the free passage of the threads between said bell and said guiding body. 2. A double twist twisting spindle as specified in claim 1, comprising in combination with the 6 thread guiding body, ribs on this body corresponding to the number of groups of delivery spools and adapted to support said belL- and pins securing said bell in position on said thread guiding body. 3.
