Abstract

449,613. Cutting and slicing vegetables. LEIGH, W., 37, King's Avenue, Parkstone, Dorset. Dec. 28, 1934, No. 37191. [Class 5 (i)] Potatoes or like vegetables pass from a hopper 1 through a shoot 3 having hinged and adjustable walls 7 and a pivoted and resiliently supported floor 10 on to a plate 18 adapted to receive one potato at a time. The plate is carried by an oscillating member 17 which intermittently raises it until the potato thereon can be discharged past an arcuate shield 19 into one of the divisions of a feeding rotor 6 that carries it to a receiving trough 40, 41, provided at each end with a detachable chipping or slicing knife grid 42. A plunger 45, adapted to press the potatoes through the grids, reciprocates in the trough in timed relation with the movement of the feeding rotor being actuated by yoke engaging a pin on a lever 49 rocked by a connecting rod 50 mounted' on a crank-pin 51 rotated by a motor. The rotor 6 is driven through a cam lever-and-ratchet gearing from the same motor and is provided with a resilient stop to lock it in position to clear the plunger 44. The cut vegetables fall into a drawer 60. The cutting machine may be used in combination with the peeling machine described in Specification 427,647, [Group VI].
