A machine for continuously coring cabbages comprises an intermitently rotated table 1 with circumferentially spaced apertures (2) beneath each of which a cutting assembly 3 is secured to the table 1. Each cutting assembly 3 comprises a tubular corer 6 with a top shearing edge and inclined knife arms 7 extending radially upwards and outwards from the corer 6. In operation, a cabbage is located within the cutting assembly 3 with its stalk engaged in the corer 6 and is pushed from above so that the stalk passes through the corer 6 to be sheared from the leaves which are simultaneously cut by the knife arms 7. The pusher comprises a vertically reciprocated rod 13 carrying a hemi-spherical head made of curved arms 15 supporting part-spherical plates 16 spaced by gaps 17 through which the arms 7 may pass to permit the cabbage to be pushed completely through the cutting assembly 3. The pusher rod 13 is carried by a plate 9 which is reciprocated vertically by a motor-driven flywheel 12 carrying a stud 11 slidably engaged in a horizontal slot (10, Fig. 3) in the plate 9. The table 1 is advanced by a Geneva wheel 26 driven in timed relationship with the pusher. The corer 6 has an interior leaf spring (8, Fig. 4) which retains the stalk until the table 1 is advanced to beneath an ejector rod which is carried by the plate 9.
