Abstract

621,140. Vegetable cutting and slicing machines. ACME ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and COLLINGWOOD, C. July 4,1946, No. 19978. [Class 5(i)] [Also in Group VI] A power-driven vegetable-slicing machine cuts a potato into successive slices, turns the slices through 90 degrees and cuts them into chips. Potatoes fed into a reciprocating hopper box 1 are sliced against a fixed knife 2. The falling slices are deflected and turned by a fixed projection 4 and drop through a slot 5 on to a set of inclined spaced bars 6. These bars are pivoted to the frame at 7 and reciprocated by links 8 so that immediately the slice falls into position it is forced against a vertical bank of chipping knives 11. The hopper 1 and the bars 6 are actuated by a crank 14 driven through an eccentric by an electric motor 12. The cut slices may be turned by a separate turning device. The Provisional Specification also describes the use of a fixed hopper and a reciprocating knife.
