[Class 38 (iii)] Means for driving induction motors 2, 3 in synchronism with a phase relation which is capable of variation during operation comprises a commutator type of fre - quency changer 4 mechanically coupled with one of the motors 2, the displaceable brushgear 5 of which is connected to the secondary winding of the motor 3. If further motors 3 are similarly controlled, their secondary windings are separately connected to additional displaceable sets of brushgear on the frequency changer. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the motor 2 and frequency changer 4 are combined mechanically and electrically in a single machine having a stator winding which acts as the secondary of the motor, connected to resistance which may be used for starting or speed control during normal running. Reference has been directed by the Comptoller to Specification 412,915.
