487,695. Control of A.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 16, 1937, No. 1382. Convention date, Jan. 17, 1936. [Class 38 (iii)] Dynamo - electric braking.-For normal running of an asynchronous motor, a switch S is placed in position 1, and the stator winding UVW is connected in delta to the supply. For braking, the switch S is moved to position 2 thereby disconnecting the phase connection V from the supply and connecting it, through an impedance Z which may be variable, to a tapping point A on the motor phase winding UW which remains connected to the supply. The motor resistance is sufficiently high for the motoring torque to attain its maximum value at a point on the torque-speed curve in the neighbourhood of zero speed. The motor phase winding UW may have several tapping points, and the phase windings of the motor may be arranged to give two different pole numbers. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a braking connection in which the phase connections UW are shortcircuited directly or through a resistance, and the supply is connected to the tapping A and the phase connection V. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
