449,059. Bobbin cradles for yarn &c. winding machines. HOLT, H., Atlas Iron Works, Whitworth Road, Rochdale. Sept. 9, 1935, No. 24997. [Class 120 (ii)] In machines for winding yarns or threads, filaments, or like materials in which the tube is driven by surface contact with a drum or in which the tube is carried by a spindle driven by surface contact with a disc or pulley, the cradle carrying the winding-spindle is adapted to be moved so as to withhold the tube or driving disc from the drum or pulley to facilitate removal of a wound package or the free turning of the package for finding and piecing a broken end, by means of a strut or arm r carrying a block s co-operating with a slot y<1> in such manner that it may prevent or permit the return of the cradle. As shown, the parts are in the stop-position, the frame e being turned about its pivot f to separate a package from its driving-drum a and to operate a package-brake k. The cradle b is pivoted at g on the frame e and is controlled by a spring l, and the slot y<1> is formed in a bracket y secured to the frame e. In normal working the block s moves freely in the straight and parallel part of the slot. The slot is formed with surfaces y<3>, y<4>, y<5> so arranged relatively to the rectangular block s that initial movement of the cradle b in the direction of the arrow A turns the block so that, in conjunction with the surfaco y<3> it acts as a stop, and further movement in the same direction effects, in conjunction with the surface y<4>, a further turning of the block s thus permitting free re-entry into the straight part of the slot y<1>. A resilient washer is fitted to prevent the strut from being moved too freely.
