Abstract

336,607. Brandwood, J. July 11, 1929. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Creel arrangements. - In unwinding thread, filaments, &c., artificial silk, &c., cross wound bobbins are rotated in the same direction as, at a surface speed smaller than the speed of, the gyration of the uncoiling thread, thus reducing frictional drag on snarls, knots &c., and on the bobbin flanges if any. The ratio of the two speeds may be constant. The bobbin b rests on a turntable c of wood, &c. which may have a vertical spindle for smaller bobbins and which is mounted on a spindle d passing through a bearing e in a fixed part f of the machine frame. The spindle d has a friction disc g of wood, metal, &c. pinned on it which engages a similar disc h pinned on a horizontal shaft extending along the machine. The thread x which passes over a drum a to any winding device, gyrates round the bobbin, and its impact with a snarl &c. y is lessened or avoided, thus large bobbins may be used with reduced risk of thread breakages. Large, heavily flanged bobbins resting on the turntable may be braked by the hand. The bobbins may be on a horizontal spindle.
