Abstract
447,920. Power hammers. WILCOX, M. D., 375, Church Road, Smithills, Bolton, and BRITISH STEEL PILING CO., Ltd., Thames House, Millbank, London. Nov. 27, 1934, No. 34096. [Class 83 (iv)] [See also Group XXVII] In a hammer or pile driver, when the combustible mixture in the space 16 is ignited the cylinders 1, 2 rise until the piston 4 engages the partition 3. The piston 4 is then carried upwards, separating the piston 6 from the piston 11 and air is then drawn into the space between them through the valve 18. After exhaust has taken place through the parts 12 the cylinders descend to allow the hammers 2a to strike the blow, and the air in the space 21 is transferred by the channel 14 to the combustion space, passing through the carburetter 17 and scavenging the space 16. Ignition is effected by the magnets 25, the arm 22 of which is moved downwards when the blow is struck.
