Abstract
447,254. Percussive tools. MECOBRENNKRAFT - MASCHINEN GES., and EICHELGRUN, M., 58, Hohenzollernplatz, Frankfort-on-Main, Germany. Jan. 14, 1936, No. 1229. [Class 124] The piston 3 of an internal - combustion rammer is raised by spring supported handles 12, transferring a fuel charge from the space 4, through ports 13, 14 to the combustion chamber below the disc 1. The burnt gases from the previous explosion are drawn into the space 7. Since the diameter of the cylinder 4 is larger than the piston 16 the gases move upward through the gap 8 preventing mixing of the burnt and fresh charges and the charge in the combustion chamber is given an initial pressure. Finally studs 10 seat the valve 9, explosion occurs, raising the cylinder and as the piston 3 descends the gases in the space 7 are exhausted through the port 25. A fresh charge is drawn from the fuel chamber 20 to the space 4. In a modification, the disc 1 is omitted and a valve carried by the handmoved piston closes the port in the diaphragm connecting the combustion and changing cylinders. In this modification, the fresh fuel charge is admitted to the cylinder through a port in the cylinder walls directed in a tangential manner. The force of the blow is adjusted by varying the movement given to the handles 12.
