447,578. Discharge apparatus ; atomic disintegration. WOLOGDIN, V., Esperova Str., Leningrad. June 8, 1935, No. 16734. [Class 39 (i)] In a vacuum tube, such as a thermionic valve, the negative space charge is wholly or partially compensated by positive electrons emitted bv the anode. In addition to a control grid, an additional grid may be provided near the anode to control the positive electron stream. The positive electrons may be produced by bombarding the anode with gammarays, for example, from a ThC<1> source arranged near the anode, or by disruption of atomic nuclei. In a Po+A1 preparation placed on the anode, for example, alpha-rays from the polonium generate positrons in the aluminium.
