Abstract
147,856. Kossel, W. Dec. 23, 1916, [Conventiou date]. Vacuum tubes.-In a tube for use as a detector, amplifier, or oscillation generator, a permanent magnetic field is used for producing the discharge. A cathode, in the form of a metal cylinder M, an anode R in the form of a metal ring, and optionally polepieces N, S, are enclosed in a vacuum tube, the discharge being produced chiefly in the plane of the ring. The cathode and the gas contained in the tube are such that the cathode drop is small. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), an electrode may be interposed between the anode and the cathode, and the field may be produced otherwise than by a permanent magnet. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
