446,740. Ships' framing. BETHLEHEM SHIPBUILDING CORPORATION, Ltd., 701, East 3rd Street, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Frear, H. P.) Sept. 4, 1934, No. 25459. Convention date, July 19, 1934. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 9, 1935.] [Class 113 (ii)] In constructions for restoring strength to longitudinals where cut at transverse bulkheads, doubling plates 37 are welded to the bases of the longitudinal stiffeners 22 and to the boundary bar 40 of the bulkhead 33. A bar 41 is also passed watertight through the bulkhead and welded at its ends to the stiffeners. In a modification, the base of the stiffeners is slotted to receive the doubling- plate. The doubling plates may be divided and may be welded along their edges to the stiffeners and to the bulkhead. As shown in Fig. 9, the welding of the round bar 76 to the head 73 of the stiffener is facilitated by interposing the hexagonal bar 77. The bulkhead 16 associated with the longitudinals may be of the corrugated form shown in Fig. 3, in which the longitudinals extend into alternate bays and thus break joint with one another. By giving a definite rise to the bilge, this arrangement also facilitates drainage to the centre of the hold.
