Abstract
446,538. Step - by - step conveyers. FOURMENT, M., 47, Avenue Mozart, and GIFFAUT, G. LADUREE-, and LADUREE, A. M., 8, Rue de la Bienfaisance, both in Paris. Jan. 17, 1935, No. 1611. Convention date, Jan. 18, 1934. [Class 78 (i)] In a step-by-step conveyer for furnaces comprising two alternating sets 6-7 of moving bars, the vertical and horizontal movements are effected by separate series of eccentrics 4-5 and 16-17, means being provided for adjusting the angular position of one series with respect to the other in order to vary the path of movement of the bars and thus the rate of travel of the charges through the furnace. The lifting eccentrics 4-5 are secured to transverse shafts 2 spaced along the length of the furnace and driven, some forwardly and some rearwardly, as described in Specification 442,270. The eccentrics 16-17 engage in frames 15 formed on the ends of the bars 6-7 and, to prevent these eccentrics lifting the bars, the frames 15 are formed with projections 20 which engage under the first set of eccentrics 4-5. The eccentrics 16-17 are secured to a sleeve 18 loosely mounted on a driving shaft 19, the latter having keyed thereto a gear 23, Fig. 16, which meshes with a worm 22 mounted in the arms of a shackle 21 integral with the sleeve 18. By rotating the worm 22 the position on the shaft 19 of the sleeve 18 and thus of the eccentrics 16-17 can be varied. The slots in the frames 15 may have a length greater than the throw of the eccentrics 16-17 ; the latter then effects only the rearward movement of the bars 6-7, the forward stroke taking place by reason of the friction between the bars and the forwardly rotating lifting eccentrics 4-5. In this case a stop bar 25, adapted to restrict the forward movement of the frames 15, may be provided, the amount of restriction, and therefore the extent of the forward movement of the bars, being varied by adjusting, through worm gearing 27, 28, the position of the stop 25. The bars 6-7 may be arranged in independent longitudinal groups operated at different speeds and/or in different directions, the sleeve 18 in this case being subdivided into sections each connected to the driving shaft 19 through its own worm and gear device 22, 23. In a further arrangement, the bars of each group may be adapted to provide successive longitudinal zones in which the charges have different movements, this effect being attached by employing thin flexible bars and by angularly displacing some of the sets of eccentrics 4-5 in relation to the others.
